About Us

Hesvika Handicrafts was born from a simple belief — that the best toys are the ones made by human hands, with natural materials, and real love.

A toy, a child, a memory that lasts.

Hesvika Handi Crafts sells the traditional wooden and clay dolls of Andhra Pradesh — Kondapalli Bommalu carved from soft Tella Poniki wood, Etikoppaka pieces turned on a lathe and finished in natural lac colours, and hand-shaped clay figurines.

We buy directly from the artisan families who make them, in Kondapalli and Etikoppaka, so the people doing the carving and the painting are the people paid for it. Kondapalli Bommalu carries a Geographical Indication tag — recognition that the craft belongs to that region.

Our shop is in Kamala Nagar, ECIL, Hyderabad, and we ship across India. The catalogue runs to more than 960 designs, from single figures to full festival and wedding sets. The name is sometimes spelled Heshvika — same shop either way.

The three crafts we carry

Kondapalli Bommalu are carved, not moulded. Artisan families in Kondapalli, near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, cut each figure from soft Tella Poniki wood, join the parts with a paste of tamarind seed powder and sawdust, and paint the detail by hand. The craft carries a Geographical Indication tag tying it to that region, and it makes up the largest part of our catalogue.

Etikoppaka Bommalu come from Etikoppaka in Andhra Pradesh and are turned on a lathe rather than carved. Colour goes on as a stick of lac held against the spinning piece, so the finish is burnished into the wood instead of painted over it. The rounded shapes and natural dyes are why these pieces have long been made as toys for younger children.

Clay bommalu, or Matti Bommalu, are shaped by hand from clay, dried slowly in the shade and painted once they have been fired. Terracotta takes colour warmly, which is what gives festival sets, Ashta Lakshmi figures and Buddha Buddhi pairs their softer, richer look.

Buying direct from the artisans

We buy from the makers rather than through a wholesale chain, so the family that carved and painted a piece is the family paid for it. That is the whole arrangement, and it is why we can tell you what a piece is made of and where it came from.

It also means the catalogue behaves the way handmade work actually behaves. A design can be unavailable for a while simply because the family that makes it is working through another order. Two pieces of the same design are never quite identical, and small differences in brushwork or colour depth are the mark of hand-made work rather than a fault.

Our Values

Visit us in ECIL, Hyderabad

Our shop is on the ground and first floor opposite the round building in Kamala Nagar, ECIL, Hyderabad. Seeing a piece in person is the easiest way to judge its size and weight, so call us on +91-9390991131 before you come and someone will be there to show you the collection.

If you cannot visit, the whole shop is online. We ship across India through registered courier companies and India Speed Post, and fragile pieces are packed for the journey.

Wholesale, bulk and custom orders

We supply retailers, gift shops, event planners and companies buying in bulk, at wholesale prices and direct from the artisan families. Festival stock, wedding sets and corporate gifting are the usual requests.

Because every piece is made by hand, bulk orders need lead time. Tell us the quantity and the date you need it by and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done. Write to info@hesvikahandicrafts.com or call +91-9390991131.
