How to set up your Golu

A Golu (Bommala Koluvu in Telugu homes, Golu or Kolu in Tamil homes, Gombe Habba in Karnataka) is arranged on an odd number of steps. Three or five is a good size for a first display. Deities go on the top steps, saints and festival scenes in the middle, and everyday village life and toys on the lowest steps.

A Golu is usually built up over the years, not bought all at once. Many families start with a Buddha Buddhi (Marapachi) pair and one deity set, then add a few pieces each Navratri. For the full step-by-step routine, read our Golu setup guide, and for Dasavatharam, Ashta Lakshmi and Navagraha, see where each set goes on the steps.

Delivery across India

We ship golu dolls and stands to every state in India. Each doll is wrapped and boxed by hand, because painted wood and clay are fragile, and orders are dispatched within 6–8 business days. Order early in the Navratri season so your Golu arrives in time. See the shipping policy for details.

Frequently asked questions

What is Bommala Koluvu?
Bommala Koluvu is the Telugu name for the Navratri doll display — the same tradition called Golu or Kolu in Tamil homes and Gombe Habba in Karnataka. Dolls are arranged on an odd number of steps, from deities at the top to everyday life at the bottom.
Which golu dolls should I buy first?
Start with a step stand, a Buddha Buddhi (Marapachi) pair and one deity set such as Dasavatharam or Ashta Lakshmi. You can add village scenes and festival sets over the following years.
Are your golu dolls Kondapalli dolls?
Most of them are. The collection includes Kondapalli golu dolls carved from Tella Poniki wood, Etikoppaka lacquer pieces and clay bommalu — all handmade in Andhra Pradesh and bought directly from the artisan families.
Do you deliver golu dolls across India?
Yes. We ship golu dolls and step stands to every state in India. Orders are packed by hand and dispatched within 6–8 business days, so order early for Navratri.
How many steps should a Golu stand have?
Traditionally an odd number — three, five, seven or nine. We stock wooden Golu stands in three, five and six steps.
